Situational Judgement Test
What?
SJT’s are measurement methods (for selection or development purposes) that present applicants with job-related situations. At a critical “moment of truth”, the scenario ends and the applicant is asked to indicate the appropriateness of given response alternatives.
Purpose & Benefits
- Measure (interpersonal & cognitive) competences
- Positive candidate-experience
- Job preview: the notion that the situations presented are related to the job (or a family of jobs) increases the job-relatedness
- Less adverse impact: the issue as to whether particular groups (e.g. White, male, and young applicants) systematically receive higher scores is lower with SJT’s
- High validity (predict job performance) & reliability
- Applicable for all job levels
- Standardization: no assessors or raters who evaluate candidates’ behavior
- Possibility to screen a large group of people because it can be taken online and without the intervention of an assessor
